America 250

Our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding on July 4, 2026, a chance to pause and reflect on our past as we look toward the future we want to create for the next generation.

We are thrilled to join Americans across the country planning unique and exciting ways to honor this historic milestone.

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, Coastal Heritage Society is offering the chance to win a free field trip to Savannah History Museum!

A longtime high school and college teacher, Brooking currently works at Atlanta’s North Springs High School.

NOW OPEN!

Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution is now open at Savannah History Museum.

The new exhibition features 17 restored Revolutionary War-era cannons and other remarkable artifacts recovered from the Savannah River near Old Fort Jackson in 2021-22.

Loyalists & Liberty is open during normal museum hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.

In addition to the 17 newly restored cannons, two cannons displayed in their original found condition, three anchor fragments, and other incredible objects are on display.

Spanning approximately 3,000 square feet, this landmark exhibit presents narratives more reflective of diverse participation in the Revolution, highlights Georgia’s role in the movement, and expands on naval stories of the region.

This project has been a true community effort, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of support from corporations, heritage organizations, and individuals.

Visit our cannon sponsorship page to learn more about the history behind these remarkable artifacts and our generous donors.

Battlefield Memorial March

Coastal Heritage Society invites you to attend our annual Battlefield Memorial March on Friday, October 9, 2026, to honor those who fought in the 1779 Battle of Savannah, one of the Revolutionary War’s most pivotal conflicts.

The free, public event begins in the parking lot of Savannah History Museum. The march will retrace the soldiers’ footsteps down West Boundary Street and along Louisville Road.

Following the march, a wreath-laying and remembrance ceremony will take place at Battlefield Memorial Park to honor the fallen.
