Battlefield Memorial Park honors those who fought on the battlefield during the American Revolution and serves as a memorial for those who were killed or wounded on the foggy morning of October 9, 1779, during the Battle of Savannah.
With over 800 casualties in under an hour, this marked one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War and a devastating loss for the patriots and their allies.
Today, visitors can explore the reconstructed Spring Hill Redoubt, built after Coastal Heritage Society archaeologists uncovered evidence of its location in 2005 and recovered artifacts now on display at nearby Savannah History Museum.
The park features 800 Georgia granite memorial stones, many engraved by commission with names and stories of Revolution participants from across the world. Each October 9th, new markers are unveiled during Coastal Heritage Society’s Battlefield Memorial March event, when guests retrace the soldiers’ footsteps and honor their memory.
The site is owned by the City of Savannah and operated by Coastal Heritage Society.
