COASTAL HERITAGE SOCIETY HOSTS ANNUAL HERO FEST AT OLD FORT JACKSON – NOV. 4

SAVANNAH, GA – October 23, 2023 – Coastal Heritage Society (CHS) will host their annual Hero Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 4 at one of CHS’s six properties, Old Fort Jackson, located at 1 Fort Jackson Road in Savannah.

Hero Fest educates families about our local heroes, such as law enforcement, first responders, medical personnel, emergency organizations, military branches, and many other “heroes” that play an essential role in the Savannah community. Various utility vehicles will be present at the event like a fire truck provided by Savannah Fire and Rescue, a squad car provided by Chatham County Police Department, a 29-foot boat provided by the US Coast Guard, and WSAV’s Weather Tracker van. Fort staff will also be leading special programming throughout the event with a medical station, cannon firing and musket demonstration, and stories of Savannah heroes throughout history.

“This annual event pays tribute to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to safeguard us. This event also serves as an opportunity to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety. Coastal Heritage Society is proud to express our gratitude to our community’s heroes and let them know that their selfless contributions are valued and appreciated.”

Admission for this event is free to all CHS members, active-duty military, and veterans upon presenting their military ID. For nonmembers and military, tickets are $10 and $7 for children ages 4-12 and can be purchased at www.shop.chsgeorgia.org/Events.aspx. Latin Chicks food truck will be in attendance to provide delicious food for purchase. Other community partners for this event include Memorial Hospital, Mercer University Medical School, and Savannah Tree Foundation.

The mission of Coastal Heritage Society is to provide educational experiences for the public through the preservation and presentation of the historic resources of coastal Georgia and adjacent regions. Coastal Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded in 1975 which operates six historic museums.
